Bright Horizons® is the UK and Ireland’s leading and largest nursery group, with over 140 nurseries in the UK and Ireland and a reputation for innovation and excellence spanning over two decades. We provide inspiring and exceptional care and education for more than 14,000 children and families every week. Our purpose is to offer each child in our nurseries the rich learning and play experiences that empower children to become confident, creative lifelong learners. Just as we put each child at the heart of our care, recognising his or her unique potential, we also recognise that each child is part of a family, and we are committed to supporting families and being the trusted partner that supports them through the parenting journey. For this reason the learning we provide is designed to extend from nursery to home. Bright Horizons is therefore delighted to support Jo Keeling and the Izzy and Ollie Children’s Safety project. The true life story of a remarkable 2 year old, which is the inspiration for Adventure in an Ambulance really caught our attention. The story mirrors our belief that children are rich in potential and are capable of far more than adults give them credit for. It is admirable that Jo has shown such tenacity and sheer determination to make this life-saving education programme accessible to so many families and professionals. If every young child can be taught the simple basics of how to respond in emergency, far more lives will be saved. We will be promoting this inspirational programme across all of our nurseries and with our many partners and colleagues. We urge you to spread the word too.
We are particularly thrilled that Jo has decided to support us in helping brighten the lives of children and families in crisis within our local communities. At Bright Horizons we are committed to making a difference, not only in the lives of the thousands of children we care for daily in our nurseries, but also in the communities where we live and work. The Bright Horizons Foundation for Children is our way of putting that commitment into practical purpose where it is most needed. We created the Bright Horizons Foundation for Children with the specific aim of helping families and children experiencing homelessness, such as those living in temporary accommodation or fleeing from domestic violence. Children who are uprooted, experiencing homelessness, domestic violence or other crisis situations often don’t have the chance to make friends, play or learn. They desperately need a childhood. Through our Foundation we can make a difference for those children. We work with local community agencies to create Bright Spaces© - rooms or garden areas in refuges and temporary housing facilities where children and families can play, learn, have fun and most of all feel safe. For children who have had to leave everything and now have nowhere to play, and no books or toys of their own, access to a Bright Space means so much. It means they have a space to be a child again. Many thanks to Jo, and to Izzy and Ollie, for helping us help children who need us.
